EU Wants Slovenia to Continue Reform Despite Political Crisis

The Commission did not comment on the situation in the country, however Simon O'Connor, the press representative of the commissioner for economic and monetary affairs, did tell the STA that Slovenia had taken important steps in dealing with economic challenges and that the Commission expected this to continue.

The country faces an escalating political crisis following Friday's congress of the PS, which saw Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek defeated by party founder Zoran Janković in a party presidency vote.

The change in party leadership has shaken the ruling coalition, as neither partner seems to be willing to remain in government with the PS under Janković's leadership. Meanwhile, some PS deputies are set to leave the deputy group of even the party.
