Premiere of Karmina Šilec's new opera
Nov 15 2024 Maribor
Karmina Šilec, an internationally-acclaimed composer, choir conductor and director, explores the role sheep have had on humanity and the natural world over the millennia in her new documentary opera.
The opera Boring Sheep that Have Been Changing the World is part of the OVIS project which focuses on this animal species. It will open on 15 November at the Minoriti Cultural Quarter in Maribor.
Šilec conceived the opera "as a canvas on which the history of the world is projected through sheep".
The opera has been produced by her organisation Carmina Slovenica. Šilec has written the score together with Henry Purcell and Samuel Barber.
Apart from music, singing, dance and acting, the opera features theatrical essays. The show has the audience moving between the Minorite Church, the Puppet Theatre and the Court Tower in the Minoriti Quarter.
