Red Dawns festival
Mar 3 2025 - Mar 9 2025 Ljubljana
The 26th international feminist and queer festival Red Dawns will feature a series of concerts, performances, exhibitions and film screenings to explore the boundaries of representations of women, non-binary, trans, and queer people, their struggles and fears, but also moments of happiness, celebration, and connection.
The festival opens with two exhibitions: Lee Culetto's My Life is a Hairy Tale, Take Two at the Alkatraz Gallery and LenĨa Malec's exhibition Orgy of Pixels at the Night Window Display Gallery. Both galleries are located at the Metelkova alternative culture venue.
Literary events will begin on 4 March with a queer-feminist creative writing session with Tony Lashden and an evening of poetry by Carol Ann Duffy and Ana Makuc, and continue with Kviropisje, a poetry reading, on 5 March, also in Metelkova.
The film segment, at the Slovenian Cinematheque, will bring a selection of feminist representations of queer and FLINTA* (female, lesbian, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people) experiences.
The festival will also present the Silver Thistle anti-award for the most sexist statement of the year on 7 March and hold a protest on International Women's Day on 8 March.
Several events will also be held in Maribor from 6 to 8 March.
