Sonica is a music festival that focuses on niches in contemporary music such as experimental, electronic, modern classical, avantgarde and transgenre, combining musical performances with sound art and transdisciplinary art practices.

Concerts, club nights, production and research residencies, exhibitions, public interventions, presentations and talks are on the programme.

This year's theme is -STREAM, an attempt by the festival organisers to shed light on what they see as one of the most pressing issues in contemporary music culture - the dominance of large streaming platforms and how they affect live music.

The lineup includes British bass musician The Bug, Japanese black metal gabbers Violent Magic Orchestra, and the Portuguese guitar virtuoso Rafael Toral.

Events will be held in various venues in Ljubljana, including Cukrarna, Cankarjev Dom and Kino Šiška.
