Primož Roglič extends contract with Jumbo-Visma

Amsterdam – Slovenian cycling star Primož Roglič has extended his contract with the Dutch cycling team Jumbo-Visma until the end of 2025, which means that he will have completed a full decade in the team’s jersey, Jumbo-Visma reported on its website on Wednesday.

Roglič started his professional cycling career with Jumbo-Visma when he signed in 2016, and had a contract until 2023. He has now extended it for a further two years, and will be 36 years old when his renewed contract runs out in 2025.

The 32-year-old Roglič has had a remarkable season. After taking physical and psychological blows in this year’s Tour de France, a gold medal at the Olympic Games and a third consecutive title at the Spanish Vuelta proved that he can bounce back stronger after a fall.

In total, Roglič won 13 races during this season, finishing third in the overall UCI rankings and second in the Rider of the Year standings, while he was also the runner-up in Slovenia’s Athlete of the Year competition.

His success was recognised by Jumbo-Visma, for whom he has 54 wins to date, as they offered him a new contract extension, even though his previous contract ran until 2023.

“I’ve grown up in this team since I joined in 2016. We’ve made history together and I’m very proud to be part of it. I’m excited to work with Jumbo-Visma for years to come,” the Slovenian cyclist told the team’s website.

“I want to continue to develop in certain areas, both physically and mentally, as a team leader and as a person. I am convinced that I am in the right place to achieve this,” Roglič added.

Meanwhile, Jumbo-Visma’s sport director Merijn Zeeman considered it remarkable that Roglič has stayed with the team for so long.

“We are glad that Primož has renewed his contract with us once again and that he has been racing with Jumbo-Visma for his entire professional career,” he said.

“This contract extension allows us to make plans and targets for the coming years, in which Primož will play a central role, as he is one of the pillars of our team,” concluded Zeeman.
