Beijing – Slovenian snowboarder Tim Mastnak won silver in the men’s parallel giant slalom on Tuesday, his first Olympic medal and the fifth medal for Slovenia at the Beijing Olympics.
The 31-year-old from Celje went from strength to strength after finishing fourth in the qualifying. In the race for gold, however, he had to concede to the Austrian Benjamin Karl. Russia’s Victor Wild won the bronze medal.
While not among the medal favourites on the Slovenian team – that honour went to Žan Košir, who was kicked out in the round of 16 – he let it be known in the final World Cup races prior to the Olympics that he was on the ascent.
