The three-day event will this year focus on topical issues such as migrations, security, Slovenian priorities in the EU's global strategy, and the internationalisation of the Slovenian economy.

The event will be opened by Prime minister Miro Cerar and Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec, while President Borut Pahor will address the conference on Tuesday and Speaker Milan Brglez on Wednesday.

Annual consultations present a chance for in-depth debates among Slovenian diplomats and are a major element in planning Slovenia's activities in foreign policy, the Foreign Ministry said.

They started of as panels on Slovenia's joining the EU and NATO, while the agenda turned to other topics after 2004.

Over the last couple of years diplomats have been primarily engaged in talks about topical international issues such as terrorism, climate change and the consequences of the economic and financial crisis.
