Govt nominates alternate EIB board member

Kavčič currently serves as the head of the sector for international financial relations at the Finance Ministry.

He has rich experience working with international financial institutions, having served as advisor to the executive director of the Inter-American Development Bank in 2002-2004 and advisor to the executive director of the World Bank group in 2009-2014.

Slovenia, which became a member of the EIB by joining the EU in 2004, has the right to appoint representatives to the bank's bodies as its shareholder.

Under the EIB statute, EIB directors and alternate members of the Board of Directors are appointed by the Board of Governors at the nomination by the member states.

Under the agreement of the shareholder constituency, which aside from Slovenia also comprises the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Hungary, Malta, Poland and Slovakia, Slovenia is eligible for the post of alternate member of the EIB Board of Directors for the 2016-2019 term.

Since October 2013 Anton Rop has been serving as Slovenia's member of the Board of Directors.
