Vtič jumped 94.5 and 97.5 metes to score 238.7 points, 2.6 points behind Takanashi, who pulled off the longest jump of the day at 100 metres in the second series. Klinec finished a further 2.6 points behind.

Another Slovenian to make it among the top ten, Špela Rogelj placed 10th (95.5, 90.5/220.4).

"I'm lost for words. I'm absolutely thrilled that two Slovenians took the podium. Historic. I believe this is a truly important step for female ski jumping in Slovenia," Vič said after the event.

She hopes the feat augurs well for the ladies' Ski Jumping World Cup meet in Slovenia's Ljubno, scheduled for St Valentine's weekend on 13 and 14 February.

Klinec was no less overwhelmed with joy: "Super, I'm really happy for today's competition, especially after the poor jump yesterday... But to have a team mate on the podium with you just tops it all."

Vtič is now third in the overall World Cup standings with 318 points, behind World Cup leader Takanashi (680 pts) and Daniela Iraschko-Stolz of Austria in second (439 pts). Klinec ranks 10th (192 pts).
