The index ranks how well countries perform in two policy areas: protection of human health from environmental harm and protection of ecosystems.

Performance is calculated in nine areas via over 20 individual indicators. The top three countries scored above 90 points, with Slovenia at just shy of 89 points.

The index was presented at the recently completed World Economic Forum in Davos.
