"The main purpose of the new Olympic Education Centre is to present the history of Slovenian Olympians, but we also want to promote sport for all and promote sport among the young," Matic Švab of the Slovenian Olympic Committee has told the press.

The centre, located at Ljubljana's shopping district BTC, will comprise a small museum which will present the achievements of Slovenian athletes at summer and winter Olympics, a multi-purpose sports hall and a shop with sports memorabilia.

Bach's visit was agreed with Slovenian Olympic Committee president Bogdan Gabrovec last autumn at a session of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) in New York.

The former German fencer succeeded Jacques Rogge (2001-2013) at the helm of the IOC in September 2013 as the ninth IOC president. This will be his first visit to Slovenia.

During the high-profile visit, the national committee will launch its new mascot and the Slovenian gear for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
