Professor Tomaž Prosen received the funds under the Advanced Grants scheme for the five-year research project Open Many-body Non-Equlibrium Systems, which is valued at two million euros, the faculty said on Wednesday.

The project focuses on the theoretical and mathematical physics of quantum systems with a large number of components that are strongly integrated and strongly excited.

It aims to shed light on phenomena such as electron transport at high temperatures and diffusion without energy losses.

The theoretical findings will be leveraged in the planning of quantum technologies of the future such as quantum memory, the faculty said.

Only three Slovenian researchers have received ECR funding since the EU programme was launched in 2007, all three of them working at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics.

In the latest round there were almost 2,000 applications and 270 candidates received grants.
