Slovenia also ranked fifth from the bottom in last year's report. The perceived judicial independence is only lower in Slovakia, Bulgaria, Italy and Croatia.

The main reason for such a poor perception of judicial independence in Slovenia is interference or pressure from government and politicians, followed by interference or pressure by economic or other specific interests.

European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Vera Jourova said that in her talks with Slovenian officials so far, she had identified the government's strong commitment to improve the state of perceived judicial independence.
