The Karavanke motorway tunnel is closed due to heavy snowing on the Austrian side and many mountain passes are also closed.

Roads in Slovenia are wet and slippery or covered with a layer of snow at higher altitudes, the traffic information centre reported.

The snowing has closed the mountain passes Vršič, Ljubelj and Korensko and the Mojstrana-Vrata road. The Karavanke tunnel is closed for all traffic in both directions.

Traffic in certain parts of the country is also hampered due to black ice on the road, while the traffic on the coast-bound motorway has slowed down due to snow.

A number of traffic accidents have been reported because of the bad weather conditions.

Strong winds meanwhile caused trouble in the northern region of Koroško, bringing down trees.
