Počivalšek said that current relations between Slovenia and Croatia make a good basis for further cooperation. "I believe that tourism is what brings both countries closer together," he said.

He believes the two countries could upgrade what they have to offer to tourists from third countries who wish to visit several countries in a week. "No one will be coming this far to see only Slovenia or Croatia," he said.

Since 2010, the two countries have made joint presentations at tourism fairs around the world under the slogan Feel Slovenia - Experience Croatia, even in third countries, such as China, Japan and South Korea with the US and Canada still on their check-list.

Head of the Slovenian Tourism Board Maja Pak, who also took part in the visit to the Croatian seaside town, told the STA that she was satisfied with the cooperation between the two countries' tourism boards and added that the discussions were about making the region more attractive to overseas markets.

"In the past six years, we managed to make good promotion for both countries in places like India, China and Taiwan."

Some 136,000 Croatian tourists visited Slovenia in 2015, a 13.3% increase from the year before. They generated about 312,000 overnight stays, a 12% rise from 2014.
