The title is the second for Domžale, after they became the first club to break the dominance of Olimpija of Ljubljana and Novo mesto in the national league in 2007.

It was the first time since Slovenian independence that neither of the two winningest clubs made it to the finals. It is also the first that they have failed to win the title for two consecutive seasons, after minnows Rogaška won it last season.
