The announcement comes a year and a half after Aerodrom Ljubljana, which operates Ljubljana Airport, passed fully into Fraport's ownership.

According to Aerodrom Ljubljana, the academy will become an important training centre for all Fraport employees and complement the existing training activities of Frankfurt airport.

"The Ljubljana region will be a good location to develop innovative solutions in aviation training," said Thomas Uihlein, head of the academy and Aerodrom Ljubljana's chief administrative officer.

Training will be carried out by Aerodrom Ljubljana experts, staff from the entire Fraport Group and other partners.

"The aim of the Fraport Aviation Academy is not only to pass on knowledge, but also to link different areas of aviation into an integrated learning concept," said Uihlein.

Initially, the Fraport Aviation Academy will offer training in airport management, ramp handling, passenger handling, occupational safety and fire services.

Later, the Fraport Aviation Academy will also get a new training centre in order to expand the number and range of training services which will be offered in the coming years.

Costing about EUR 3.9m, construction is scheduled to start in early 2017, while the inauguration is expected in early 2018.
