Actor, TV show host and editor, Trefalt started his career as a sports journalist before dedicating himself to the entertainment programme.

He wrote scripts and hosted many of the unforgettable TV shows and quizzes of the 1980s such as Košnikova gostilna (Košnik's Pub), Nedeljskih 60 (Sunday's 60), Ona in on (She and He), Kolo sreče (The Wheel of Fortune), Igre brez meja (Games Without Frontiers), Hugo, Teater Paradižnik (Tomato Theatre) and many more.

Trefalt marked the Slovenian TV programmes as nobody else, his former assistant Marko Prpič told the STA today.

As editor he was very demanding to all but mostly to himself, he said, adding that Trefalt had always been the first to arrive at work and the last to leave.

He introduced ratings for TV shows and changed the way shows were made. It all started with a draft script he had to confirm and ended with a reflection of all those working on the project after the show, he explained.

Prpič also highlighted that Trefalt was the first to send Slovenian representatives to the Eurosong contest and brought series that were popular around Europe to Slovenian viewers.

Born in the city of Kranj, Trefalt graduated from the Ljubljana theatre academy, the predecessor of today's AGRFT, and worked as an actor for the SNG Drama Ljubljana theatre and the theatre group Oder 57 for a while.

Among the many awards, Trefalt received in 2012 the Viktor for Lifetime Achievement, Slovenia's most prestigious media and popular culture award.

In his spare time, he was active in charity, having founded charity Dobrodelno društvo France Trefalt, named after his father, who was also an actor and comic. He also cooperated with the Slovenian Hospice Society and other charities.
