EIB to open office in Ljubljana later this month

The document, which is proposal for approval by the government, says that the office launch is part of the EIB's policy to increase local presence in EU countries.

It enables the bank to learn better about the financial needs of the local environment, to form financial products and establish closer ties with national bodies, as well as increase awareness about new financial products, reads the document.

Operating on a non-profit basis and in the interest of the EU, the bank's task is to contribute to a balanced and smooth development of the internal market.

Since joining the EU in 2004, Slovenia has been granted EIB loans to the tune of EUR 5.1bn.

The borrowing amounted to a record EUR 798m last year, enabling the financing of investment worth EUR 4.4bn, which is the highest level of investment per capita in the EU.
