Kazakhstan opens consulate in Maribor
The opening ceremony was attended by honorary consul Gorazd Šifrer and Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Austria Kairat Sarybay, who said that the consulate offered a chance to create new synergies between both countries.
"By that I do not mean just economy, but also relations between the two nations, which could bear fruit in areas such as culture and economy," said Sarybay.
Šifrer said cooperation in culture and science would be their priority while business cooperation should come later. He said the two countries were already working on several joint projects be he would not go into detail.
Economic cooperation between both countries has been quite modest, according to data from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS). Last year's trade amounted to EUR 87m, with Slovenian exports to the country contributing EUR 63m and imports from the country EUR 24m.
This year's trade will probably reach a similar figure, as trade amounted to just over EUR 40m in the first six months.
