Design Month kicks off in Ljubljana
The award for timeless Slovenian design was conferred on Studio Miklavc for its Alpina Racing Esk Pro ski boots. The boots were a joint effort of Studio Miklavc and sports footwear maker Alpina.
The award for design of the year went to the Primož Jeza Studio for its Nico Less chair. Made from recycled material, the chair pays homage to Niko Kralj, the pioneer of contemporary Slovenian industrial design, and evokes simplicity with its design, the jury said as it gave the award.
Design Month, running under the banner Creative Tourism, will offer a series of events through 18 November.
Tuesday's award ceremony will be followed by the launch of two exhibitions.
The first will showcase a selection of original product and fashion design, while the second will present rooms for tourism purposes designed by architects and designers in collaboration with commercial partners.
On Thursday, a conference and exhibition will take place to give participants the chance to share examples of renovation of old Slovenian houses for tourism purposes.
The Slovenska Vinopeka project will promote Slovenia's wine culture and offer wine tastings throughout the month.
