Weather: Heavy rain

n the afternoon, the rain will intensify and a strong south-westerly wind will blow, while a southerly wind will push through the coast.

Morning lows will range from 2 to 6 degrees Celsius, while in the north they will revolve around freezing point. At the coast, the mercury will rise to 10 degrees. Daytime highs will stand between 10 and 16 degrees.

The Environment Agency has warned of heavy rain, which is expected on Saturday afternoon and night and could cause rivers and creeks to swell substantially, in particular in the west.

During the night, 80-140 millimetres of rain is expected to fall, up to 200 millimetres in the hilly parts of the country. In the north and east, 50-80 millimetres of rain is forecast.

It will be cloudy with frequent rainfall on Sunday too and heavy rainfall will still be possible. It will be rather warm, though, and a south-westerly wind will blow.

On Sunday night, snow will be possible at altitudes around 800m above sea level in northern parts of the country.

Precipitation should mostly abate on Monday, but temperatures are expected to drop somewhat.
