PM Cerar believes Slovenia could become bridge between US, Russia
Slovenia has proven in the past that it is "capable of organizing such meetings", Cerar said in a reference to past top-level meetings, including the 2001 historic meeting between George Bush and Vladimir Putin in Brdo pri Kranju.
In the interview, Cerar also said that last week he had received a phone call from Trump and his spouse, Melania.
He said he had spoken to the next US First Lady in Slovenian and had congratulated her and her husband.
He said that he had spoken to Donald Trump about Slovenia and its current situation, as well as about a future visit.
Cerar said the conversation with the future US president "touched very briefly" on the possible Slovenian mediation efforts, but that no specific conclusion had been made.
"We are seriously considering this opportunity, but the initiative must come from Trump and Putin," Cerar said.
