The Orchestra gives over sixty concerts each season in its home, the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, as well as concerts in venues across the city. The Orchestra tours regularly throughout the UK and world-wide and has an extensive discography featuring many critically acclaimed recordings. Vasily Petrenko, one of the most prominent Russian conductors of recent time was appointed Principal Conductor of the Orchestra in September 2006. As well as his Liverpool commitment, where he is based, Vasily also holds titled positions with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (appointed in 2013). Petrenko has worked with many of the world's most prestigious orchestras. The youngest Artistic Director in the history of the Orchestra, Petrenko has made an immense impact on the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the city's cultural scene.

Austrian-born Kian Soltani ranks among the most promising young cellists. Winner of numerous international cello competitions and member of the renowned Anne-Sophie Mutter foundation, Soltani tours internationally with "Mutter's Virtuosi".
