Politicians, managers & diplomats meeting for cross-country skiing

According to director of the race Klemen Grašič of the sports association Strelica Tržič, some 40 business executives and 20 diplomats and politicians have signed up.

Some last-minute cancellations can be expected, but others may step in and join the 5-kilometre recreational race, Grašič has told the STA.

Moreover, many more are expected at Pokljuka, since the event is also aimed at providing attendants with an opportunity to socialise.

"During all these twenty-four years strong bonds of friendship have been forged, many interesting discussions about current domestic and international economic and political issues have taken place, and a number of new ideas have been generated," the organisers wrote in their invitation.

The event, which takes place under the honorary sponsorship of President Borut Pahor, is regularly attended by top Slovenian executives, MPs, Slovenian MEPs, members of the government and the diplomatic corps.

After the race, which starts at 11 AM, competitors and other visitors will socialise over traditional Slovenian dishes, followed by a ceremony announcing the winners.

Partly a charity event, the race will raise funds for an underprivileged Slovenian family.
