Prime minister says people are fundamental value of EU
"We will not have peace and democracy and law-governed and welfare state if we don't refer to people as a value, to their dignity," Cerar told the press.
According to the prime minister, the pope's speech on the 60th anniversary of the Rome treaties gives a special importance to this festive moment.
It is is very important that an emphasis in the speech was put on people, because people are the fundamental value of the EU, Cerar said.
At the same time, the EU must make effort to create a solidarity-based community which will develop Europe in the future, he added.
Pope Francis warned the EU leaders today that the 60-year-old EU is risking its death without solidarity, adding that it must revive hope in the path and ideals set by the founding fathers.
