Although the winning goal came only in the 88th minute, the home team deservedly won the match as they dominated it entirely from start to finish.

Team captain Boštjan Cesar, who anchors Slovenia's defence, admitted that Slovenia "entered the match poorly from the very first minute", adding that the Scots played well and deservedly won.

"We knew that the Scots would play aggressively, while we weren't at our best level," he said, adding that the second half was better but Slovenia unfortunately returned home empty-handed.

Head coach Srečko Katanec was clearly disappointed with his team's play. He congratulated Scotland on the win while noting that Slovenia "showed nothing on the pitch."

With their first loss, Slovenia dropped to third place in the qualifying group F standings behind England (13 points) and Slovakia (nine points). Slovenia have eight points, one point more than Scotland.

In the next World Cup qualifying match, Slovenia will face off Malta at home on 10 June.
