Chocolate festival begins in Radovljica
This year's festival features some 40 chocolatiers. The organiser, Radovljica Tourism, wishes to offer as many types, flavours and shapes of chocolate as possible, said their director Nataša Mikelj.
New among the flavours are lard, cracknels, olive oil and mohant cheese, typical of the Gorenjsko region. The festival is also presenting "blonde" chocolate, invented by French chocolatiers in 2012.
After last year's Guinness world record chocolate, this year the organisers are presenting a chocolate roulette with chocolate chips. Another speciality are chocolate paintings by Slovenian contemporary painter Meta Šolar.
One of the biggest attractions however is the 95-kilogram Gorenjka chocolate, marking the 95th anniversary of the Slovenian chocolate brand which produces more than 1600 tonnes of chocolate each year.
The festival, which started yesterday and will end on Sunday evening, is taking place in ten venues centred around Radovljica town square, accompanied by music and dance performances.
