Počivalšek will be heading a delegation that will attend the international forum Belt and Road for International Cooperation.

The forum will feature more than 1,200 participants, including heads of governments, ministers, officials, experts, entrepreneurs, representatives of financial institutions and media organisations from 110 countries, the ministry has announced.

According to the ministry, the purpose of Počivalšek's visit is to boost economic cooperation between Slovenia and China and strengthen Slovenia's role in the One Belt, One Road initiative of China's cooperation with Central and East European countries.

Slovenia and China have intensified their relations lately, with senior Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China Zhang Gaoli visiting Slovenia last month.

Zhang and Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar agreed during the visit that the two countries had established in the 25 years of diplomatic relations a trustworthy partnership, which they pledged will be maintained and strengthened.

Economic relations between Slovenia and China have been boosted in recent years, both in terms of trade and investments, and the countries have maintained regular contacts in the field of agriculture and food production.
