The association of European brewers celebrates its 70th anniversary, and its Slovenian member, the Slovenian Brewers' Association, is hosting the congress for the first time.

Guests at the 36th congress are however not limited to Europe, they also come from Japan, Singapore, Brazil, Mexico and the US.

The main parts of the congress will take place in Ljubljana's Cankarjev dom, but the programme also includes visits of the Union and Laško breweries as well as the Institute for Beer Brewing and Hop Growing in Žalec.

There will be a workshop on Slovenian hops and beer on Tuesday, while the international visibility of Slovenian brews is also in focus, with presentations of Slovenia's two large breweries Laško and Union as well as 18 Slovenian micro breweries.

The specially made Slovenian glass of the 36th EBC congress was designed by Roman Ražman and bears the inscription "We call it pivo".
