The share of cases of white-collar crime in the entire crime statistics was down last year to 16.6%. On the other hand, the share of damage caused by white-collar crime in total crime was up by 8.2 percentage points to 87.8%.

"In detecting and investigating crime, the fight against white collar crime is one of the priority tasks of the police, especially in fields with a higher risk of economy- and corruption-related crime," the police said in the report.

"The police treated as priority criminal acts in which the rights of workers and vulnerable groups were violated, while at the same time acquainting them with their rights."

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) thus still lists among its priorities the investigation of complex criminal acts in the field of corruption related to the abuse of financial instruments, takeovers of companies, capitalisations and other illegal transactions.

The damage caused by white-collar criminal acts investigated last year has been estimated at EUR 518.7m, which is 43.2% more than in 2015.

The estimated damage increased primarily in the field of bankruptcies caused by fraud or malfeasance in office and in the field of fraud.

On the other hand, the number of criminal acts of abuse of office or trust in an economic activity was down by 52.4% compared to the year before.
