Tacen hosting European Canoe Slalom Championships
Everything in Tacen, which already hosted the European Championships in 2005 and the World Championships in 2010.
The competition is starting today, while the first medals will be handed out on Friday in the team events.
Slovenia will be represented by 13 boats, the flagship being the K-1 slalom kayak of Olympic silver medallist Peter Kauzer, who also got silver in Tacen in 2005.
"I have to deliver my usual performance and a good result will come. I don't wish to win due to others' mistakes. The course is very specific," the 33-year-old said.
Benjamin Savšek, who became European champion in 2015, will be Slovenia's main hope among the canoeists. "My expectations are high, I hope my head stays cool, as the heart tends to race a little before the home crowd," Savšek said.
Other medal candidates in the Slovenian team include kayaker Urška Kragelj and the canoeist duo Luka Božič/Sašo Taljat, who might be making their final joint appearance. All will be defending silver medals from the 2016 European Championships.
The director of the Slovenian team, Andrej Jelenc, has announced a high-quality competition, saying that all the best European kayakers and canoeists are coming to Tacen.
