Prices in Slovenia below EU average in 2016
Overall, the prices of products and services in Slovenia reached 82% of the EU average last year.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products were on average 19% cheaper than in the EU, while bars and restaurants' services and accommodation were 18% cheaper.
The prices of transport were 10% below the EU average.
Among the dozen countries with prices above the EU average, Denmark is the most expensive (39% above the EU average), followed by Ireland (25% above the average), and Sweden and Luxembourg (both 24% above the average).
The lowest prices were measured in Bulgaria (at 48% of the EU average), Romania (52%) and Poland (53%).
When comparing the prices in Slovenia's neighbouring countries, the Slovenian Statistics Office found the most notable difference in the hospitality sector. Austria and Italy charge 26% more than Slovenia for services at bars and restaurants and for accommodation, while Croatia and Hungary charge 13% and 27% less, respectively.
The prices of clothes and consumer electronics in Italy, Austria and Croatia were almost level as in Slovenia.
