Summer Night concert to honour composer Jože Privšek

His songs will be performed by the RTV Slovenija Symphony Orchestra, the Big Band RTV Slovenija and several exceptional soloists.

Marking the first day of summer, the concert will feature 22 Slovenian evergreen songs composed by Privšek and performed by acclaimed Slovenian singers, such as Oto Pestner, Darja Švajger, Alenka Godec, Nuška Drašček and Nuša Derenda, said Festival Ljubljana, which is organising the event together with RTV Slovenija.

Privšek (1937-1998) was of great importance to Slovenian pop music and jazz, being one of the composers behind the golden age of Slovenian pop music in the 1960s and 70s. For 30 years, he was a conductor of the Big Band RTV Slovenija orchestra, for which he composed more than 1,000 jazz arrangements.

Privšek was also the author of several original jazz compositions and songs, as well as film, television and theatre music. His work earned him a lot of important awards, among them the highest composer award of the Slovenian Composers' Association and the Viktor media award for lifetime achievements.
