Senior LibDem Official Leaving Party
The LDS's support for its president despite her alleged corruption leads to "final political and ethical disintegration of the party", Jamnikar said in a press release on Thursday.
Kresal resigned as interior minister on 10 August over a controversy surrounding the lease of a building for the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), deciding to seek a vote of confidence of the LDS council at a session on 24 August.
The council backed Kresal unanimously but the session was boycotted by Jamnikar and another prominent LDS member, Blaz Kavcic, the president of the National Council, the upper chamber of parliament.
Jamnikar hinted for the STA today that he plans to form a new party. He said that nothing serious had been done in this respect so far, but that he would hold a series of talks about it in the future.
News-portal 24ur.com meanwhile reported today that Jaminkar and Kavcic were forming a new party, but Kavcic told the STA that "up to this point, no concrete steps were made" in that direction.
He moreover said that he was not leaving the party yet but is deliberating his next move. He added that there were quite a few people who were contemplating how "to end the unbearable situation".
