The Commission said after discussing the ruling on Tuesday that it was willing to help with a comprehensive and fair implementation of the ruling.

"The Commission stands ready to contribute or facilitate this process," Timmermans told the press.

According to him, the Commission also welcomes the meeting of Slovenian and Croatian prime ministers, Miro Cerar and Andrej Plenković, scheduled for 12 July, as well as their agreement that no unilateral steps would be taken beforehand.

Timmermans also expressed hope that the two PMs would agree on how to best implement the ruling.

The Commission's call for implementing the ruling was already welcomed by Cerar on Twitter. The Commission's offer to contribute to the implementation was welcome, he wrote.

The arbitration tribunal tasked with determining the border between Slovenia and Croatia delivered its final award last Thursday, but Croatia rejects the decision due to a 2015 wiretapping scandal, which it claims has compromised the arbitration.
