This year's Film Under the Stars festival will feature the highlights of the past year as well as five premieres each evening at 9:30 PM until 29 July. English subtitles will be provided for foreign films.

La Tortue Rouge, an animated film by Michael Dudok de Wit which won the FIPRESCI critics award at last year's Ljubljana Film Festival, will be preceded tonight by Nighthawk (Nočna Ptica), the internationally celebrated short animated film by Slovenia's Špela Čadež.

The first premiere, L'odyssee, a film dedicated to French naval officer, explorer, oceanographer, filmmaker, author etc. Jacques Cousteau, is scheduled for Friday.

While the programme also includes hits like Manchester by the Sea, La La Land and Elle, the next premiere is scheduled for 11 July with William Oldroyd's Lady Macbeth.

Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk will be screened on 20 July, Aki Kaurismäki's The Other Side of Hope on 25 July and Emir Kusturica's On the Milky Road on the closing night of the festival.

Two partly Slovenian feature-length films are also on the programme - Nightlife (Nočno življenje) by Damjan Kozole and Liberation Day (Dan osvoboditve), the music documentary about the concert of the Slovenian group Laibach in North Korea made by Norwegian director Morten Traavik .

In case of bad weather, screenings will be held the following day at the Kinodvor cinema theatre.
