The members of the Pirat sailing club from Portorož managed to keep their third place ahead of the last regatta featuring the best ten boats.

This is the first world championship medal for the Slovenian duo, which previously won gold and bronze at the European championships.

Mrak and Macarol also finished sixth at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

The gold medal in Greece went to Agnieszka Skrzypulec and Irmina Mrozek Gliszczynska of Poland (42 points), while the silver went to the British pair of Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre (48).

"We did great," Mrak told the press after the race, while Macarol added that "our plan was to keep the third place, which is why we decided to stick to the Dutch crew during the regatta. They could have overtaken us, but they failed."

"We are going to Denmark's Arhus already in August to participate in the next regatta and to get acquainted with the location of the next world championship, where first Olympic quotas will be awarded," Macarol said.

The duo is also planning to participate together at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, and will be in Tokyo at the end of the year for a World Cup regatta. "We will get acquainted with the venues and with competitors," Mrak said.
