Ponomarenko Janić grabbed silver in the morning together with Anja Osterman in the K2 500-metre race to top it up a few hours later with a bronze medal in the K1 200-metre final.

These are already medals no. six and seven for 35-year-old Ponomarenko Janić at European or World championships. She was fourth in the K1 200-metre race at the Rio Olympics.

The Ponomarenko Janić and Osterman duo is meanwhile a brand new combination, with 24-year-old Osterman pointing out this had only been their second race together.

"Second race, second podium finish...If this continues we will win at the World Championships," Osterman announced five weeks ahead of the big event.

Ponomarenko Janić, who had to compete twice within two hours, added there was still a lot of room for improvement. "I hope the schedule will be kinder at the World Championships, because I also want to do both races there."
