Cerar meets Pence, seeks US support over arbitration
Speaking to Slovenian reporters, he underscored the importance of the US's support for the implementation of the border arbitration award. But he said Pence took no position on the matter.
Cerar also briefly discussed the implementation of the decision on the border between Slovenia and Croatia with his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenković.
"The main thing we ascertained is that we must continue talking, while I made clear that we can only discuss the implementation of the arbitration decision," Cerar told Slovenian reporters in Podgorica.
One of the topics broached in the meeting with Pence was the Western Balkans, with Cerar underscoring Slovenia's role in the region, which he said was noted in particular in Montenegro's accession to NATO. Slovenia played the role of a contact embassy, one of the biggest advocates of Montenegro's membership.
Pence and Cerar also talked about cooperation in NATO, including in the fight against terrorism. Cerar assured the US vice president of Slovenia's continued commitment as a responsible NATO member.
Cerar also repeated an open invitation for US President Donald Trump to visit Slovenia, and told Pence he would be welcome in Slovenia too.
