President embarks on Slovenia journey on foot
The president has made it his goal to walk from the region of Goričko in the north-east of the country to the town of Piran on the coast in the south-west.
He is accompanied by his son Luka, the chief of staff at his office, Alja Brglez, and his spokesperson Petra Arsič.
The team, which gathered today in the town of Hodoš near the border with Hungary, plans to walk around 40 kilometres a day.
Given that Pahor has presidential duties to attend to on Tuesday, they will be on the way until Monday, which means walking a total of 240 km.
However, they told the STA that they would not go directly from Hodoš to Piran. They will criss-cross the country to stop also in the regions of Gorenjsko (NW), Bela krajina (SE) and Koroško.
The goal is to meet people, who are also invited to join the president for at least parts of the tour.
Although Pahor has announced to stand for re-election this autumn, it is not known whether the journey marks the start of his election campaign.
During his election campaign five years ago, he joined blue-collar workers to do their job for a day, testing his skills as a butcher, hairdresser, mechanic, construction worker and shop assistant among other jobs.
