The nine-time French champions Olympique Marseilles proved a too tough obstacle for the Domžale side after the first leg in Stožice ended with a draw (1:1).

Marseilles used the home turf to their advantage and put pressure on Domžale from the get go. The away team nevertheless managed to get some chances and threatened the home goal.

By the end of the first half, Valere Germain scored the first goal for the home team. This gave Marseilles a good start to the second half which soon saw the second goal by Germain.

The 86th minute saw the final goal of the game as Florian Thauvin used a pass from Germain to send the ball into the net.

Had Domžale won against Olympique, they would have secured their first ever appearance in the group stage of the second strongest league in Europe.
