NHL star raises record 110,000 euro at charity golf tournament
"A record 110,871 euro was raised at yesterday's seventh charity tournament at the Bled Royal golf course! Thank you, congratulations and honours to all! An incredible and unforgettable day!" Kopitar wrote in Slovenian on his Facebook account.
Featuring almost 90 golf players, the tournament, which ended with an auction, was held at the recently inaugurated golf course at the popular Alpine resort of Bled.
Kopitar, captain of his Los Angeles Kings in 2016/2017, and Pečečnik raised around 218.500 euro in total at the previous six tournaments.
When organising the first golf tournament, we had no idea how much attention it would attract, but it has turned out a success, he said.
Happy to be able to help, he is proud of how much has been raised. "We have helped children, hospitals, we have built a few playgrounds etc."
This year, the proceeds will go to several foundations helping children and people with various disabilities, underprivileged children, a children's hospital and young talented athletes.
Kopitar and Pečečnik, the owner of a company that specialises in gaming devices for casinos, were joined by a number of Slovenian companies.
