"This is possibly also the most noticeable change to previous years, an important indicator that people see they can stay longer and that we have something to offer," the head of the region's tourism centre Tina Samec Novak has told the STA.

Noting that Brda are also an excellent hub for one-day trips to exciting sites within a 100-kilometre radius, she explained that overnight stays had increased by around 20% in the first half of the year and by even more during the summer.

Austrians, Germans, and Belgians are the main visitors, while in the summer months many also come from Poland, the Netherlands, France. An increase has also been noticed among visitors from the US, England, Ireland and also "more exotic" countries.

Samec Novak also explained that it was getting hard to get a vacancy in Brda without reservations. With only roughly 550 beds available, the occupancy rate is almost 100%.

The official noted the need for additional infrastructure, while indicating that avoiding mass tourism also had its advantages.
