The Slovenian company, which also operates in other countries, generated EUR 5.5m in sales revenue on the domestic market last year.

Speaking with the STA, the company's director Marko Guček said that the net profit amounted to a few thousand euro, because it has been investing heavily in development and expansion.

"At the moment we cannot have a positive bottom line. We have a profit in Slovenia, but it's minimal."

He could not talk yet about concrete figures for the first two quarters of this year, but said that the company posted growth rates of between 15% and 20% in Slovenia and 40% at the global level.

GoOpti is increasingly linking cities and towns rather than just airports. "Clients are also turning to us for other transfers, which they book online in advance," Guček said.

The company is investing in development of its business model and platform as well as in expansion in Slovenia and abroad, including Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.

They are also planning to expand to Germany, Switzerland, France, Poland and Austria, as well as in the existing markets.

"What we do is obviously not present anywhere yet, and there's a need for us to transfer the solution to other markets. There is the desire, motivation, but the key thing is whether we'll have investors to support us."

GoOpti is primarily a platform combining transport companies with passengers, so it does not hire drivers directly. Globally, the company employs 45 people, with plans for 10 to 15 new jobs next year.

GoOpti provides vehicles and drivers through subcontractors, which hire self-employed persons.

The newspaper Dnevnik has reported that the Labour Inspectorate has banned such practice because the self-employed worked under terms akin to full-time employment.

According to the paper, Guček supported the inspectorate's decision although he said that it was a challenge for GoOpti's system; due to annual fluctuations in demand, their franchises must have the option to hire someone to work for them only for the weekend or a month.
