Ikea only step away from construction launch in Ljubljana
Ikea is ready for the construction to start but must wait for an environmental consent as the final step before a building permit to step into force.
Ikea received bids from 30 Slovenian companies and six from abroad. The company chose nine firms to carry out the various stages of the project.
Builder Pomgrad will perform the construction works on the store and the parking lot, Kolektor Koling will be in charge of infrastructure and the connecting roads and KM Instalacija will lay mechanical and water installations.
Elevatis/Kleeman will install elevators and other vertical transporters, while Filbis/Irgo will install geo-thermal installations and the construction management system will be run by Metronic.
Fibernet Solar will install photovoltaic units, while Boyden will manage and oversee the entire construction project, Ikea said in the press release.
"After choosing the contractors, Ikea is ready for construction to begin," Ikea property and expansion manager for south east Europe Vladislav Lalić said in the press release.
"We have everything ready for the projects and for acquiring the eight construction permits. We are only waiting now for the environmental approval to take effect and the Ljubljana Municipality to deliver on its obligations from the memorandum of understanding."
Ikea announced it would build a store in Ljubljana in 2014 and bought a lot in the Ljubljana BTC shopping district in 2016. Ikea plans to invest a total of EUR 90m to launch the 30,000 square metre store, creating some 300 jobs.
Lalić has previously said that the store could be completed next year.
