Minister says talks with Magna under way
Speaking at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) about the first meeting with Magna since the environmental approval for the paint shop project became final, Počivalšek corrected his Tuesday announcement that the contract would be signed by the end of this week.
He explained that this was a strategic investment contract for an investment exceeding EUR 100m and projected to secure at least 1,000 new jobs. It also provides EUR 18m in government support and defines the consequences of a cancellation of the project.
The procedure for a building permit is meanwhile continuing, which the minister feels will allow Magna to start with construction in October.
He added that the government had learned a lot from this case and will be able to use the experience when drawing up legislation for potential new investment.
