Near-final referendum results show rail upgrade law upheld
After over 95% of the votes have been counted, the National Electoral Commission tallied 53.6% in favour of the challenged law and 46.4% against.
Provisional turnout is at just over 20%, which means that even if the opponents of the act were ahead, the law would still be upheld due to legislation stipulating that at least 20% of all voters must vote against a law to invalidate it.
