Incumbent Pahor to face Mayor Šarec in 12 Nov presidential run-off

Third place went to MEP Romana Tomc of the opposition Democrats (SDS) with 13.73%, while Ljudmila Novak, the leader of the opposition New Slovenia (NSi), ended in fourth with 7.16%.

Andrej Šiško of the non-parliamentary United Slovenia party follows with 2.22%, Koper Mayor Boris Popovič of the non-parliamentary Forever Slovenia party has 1.79%, Maja Makovec Brenčič of the senior coalition Modern Centre Party (SMC) received 1.72%, Suzana Lara Krause of the non-parliamentary People's Party (SLS) 0.77% and Angelca Likovič of the non-parliamentary Voice for Children and Families party 0.58%.

The turnout was the lowest for a first round in the history of presidential elections in independent Slovenia. It was only lower, at 42.41%, in the second round in 2012, when the first-round turnout had stood at 48.41%.

The final results are expected to be in in slightly over a week, as the National Electoral Commission (DVK) still needs to count the ballots sent by mail in Slovenia as well as from abroad.

The new five-year presidential term starts on 23 December.
