The memorandum was signed as part of a conference on informatics in public administration in Brdo pri Kranju on Tuesday by Public Administration Minister Boris Koprivnikar and Hungarian Deputy State Secretary for Informatics Karoly Hajzer.

Koprivnikar said on the occasion that the 5th generation mobile networks were a technology of the future, which would enable other technologies to communicate with each other. "We need to start introducing and synchronising them".

According to him, it is impossible to regulate new technologies within individual countries. The pilot project with Hungary is an example in Europe of how to synchronise systems and expand them in cross-border cooperation.

Hajzer said that the "problem we are facing does not concern only one country, but it is a global task", adding that Hungary wanted to be well prepared for 5G technologies and was looking forward to cooperating with Slovenia.

The project was welcomed by Philippe J. Lefebvre of the European Commission's directorate for communications networks, who pointed to the importance of inter-operability and integration of services in the fields of security, protection and rescue.

Enabling communications for public safety, protection and rescue is a condition for successful functioning of the security system, the Public Administration Ministry said in a press release.

This is why it is necessary to determine a frequency spectrum and adequate technical solutions which would enable priority and fast transfer of a large quantity of data, it added.

The results of the pilot project are expected to help the countries improve the management of incidents and chances of survival of victims, and reduce the costs of disasters and other extraordinary events.

Technological solutions from the project will be very useful for the prevention and management of consequences of terrorist attacks and border control for illegal migrations, or in case of increased tourist flows, the ministry said.
